His election succeeds the announcement of the retiring Bishop, Rt Rev Stephen Namanya, who has diligently steered the twenty-year-old Diocese towards transformation.
In a succession plan set in motion, on 2nd February 2024, the Most Rev Dr Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, made a pastoral visit to the Diocese. During this visit, Archbishop Kaziimba praised Bishop Namanya as a visionary leader. He toured various Diocesan projects, notably the Kakyera Stock Farm, housing over 320 cows, the Clergy Pension House, Kanoni Bible College, Rushere Model Primary School, a valley dam, and the upcoming North Ankole Mission Hospital. The hospital is poised to include a theater, male and female wards, specialized clinics, a pediatric ward, and a pharmacy, among other facilities.
Archbishop Kaziimba also visited the Deanery, Bishop’s ranches, the Early Child Development Center at the Cathedral, and the North Ankole Platinum SACCO in Rushere Town Council and Kazo Branch. Noteworthy projects like Buremba Secondary School, Bishops’ Girls Secondary School, and North Ankole Technical Institute were also part of the Archbishop’s itinerary. The latter, a future Polytechnic University, aims to provide practical technical and scientific training and educational courses at the degree level, aligning with the Diocese’s development plans.
Expressing profound gratitude for Bishop Namanya’s active involvement in the House of Bishops, Archbishop Kaziimba highlighted his pivotal role in decision-making and formulating key policies for the Province of the Church of Uganda.
