- A new infant Phototherapy Machine cost between 2,500,000 to 3,000,000 Ugandan shillings.
KABALE: Authorities at Rugarama Hospital in Kabale Municipality are facing a shortage of infant phototherapy machines crucial for treating newborn premature babies, according to Dr. Esther Rutaremwa, the Medical Superintendent.
Dr. Rutaremwa disclosed this while receiving a generous donation of 1,700,000 Ugandan shillings from the legends of Christian Sports Contact (Chrsc) to address the pressing issue.
Dr. Rutaremwa highlighted a monthly influx of premature babies, averaging between 20 to 30, including referrals, community rescues, and hospital births. Despite this influx, the hospital only possesses two phototherapy machines, which are insufficient to meet the demand.
She underscored the vital role of these machines in nurturing premature babies to good health, emphasizing the urgent need for additional equipment.

Despite raising 1,700,000 Ugandan shillings, Dr. Rutaremwa revealed that the cost of a new machine ranges between 2,500,000 to 3,000,000 Ugandan shillings. Nabimanya reassured the hospital of their commitment to securing the remaining funds.
