KISORO: Game Rangers in the southern sector of Bwindi National Park in Rushaga, Kisoro District have appealed for increased field facilitation to better support their work.
They raised this issue, among others, with the Bukimbiri County Member of Parliament, Hon. Eddie Kwizera Wa-Gahungu, during his visit to government projects in Rubuguri town council this week.
The rangers reported that each person receives a daily field facilitation of 3,500 shillings, which is insufficient even for a packed lunch. Additionally, they highlighted delays in receiving this payment, which sometimes takes more than a month to be processed.
These delays often leave them hungry while performing their duties, such as assisting tourists with Gorilla tracking and other park protection activities.
The rangers also pointed out that the access roads to tracking areas from the community are in poor condition, posing a threat to tourists.

MP Kwizera expressed regret that the game rangers, who significantly contribute to the government’s revenue through tourism, are inadequately supported. He noted that Rushaga generates over 300 million shillings daily from Gorilla tracking. He pledged to raise their concerns with the government for resolution.
