KASESE: The territorial police in the Rwenzori East Policing Region, Kasese District, are overwhelmed by a significant increase in criminal cases over the past one and a half weeks.
SP Luka Mbusa, the Regional Community Liaisons Officer, reported a surge in various criminal activities, including both simple and aggravated defilement.
Speaking to our reporter on Tuesday at his office, SP Mbusa stated that approximately 12 cases of defilement have been registered across the four divisions in the region: Kasese, Hima, Bwera, and Katwe, since last week.
Mbusa attributes the rise in defilement cases to high levels of poverty among family heads, which leads young girls to seek financial support from men, often resulting in exploitation. Additionally, he noted that 16 cases of burglary have also been recorded.
Mbusa urged community members to engage in hard work as a preventative measure against such crimes.
