RUKIGA: Police in Rukiga District have arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of a 35-year-old man in Kashambya Sub County.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson, confirmed the development and identified the suspects as Niwabine Caroline (28), the wife of the deceased, Akatwebembera Phiona (42) and Tayebwa Onesmus (38), the brother of the deceased. The suspects are currently in custody to aid in investigations.
The deceased, Frank Turyatemba, a resident of Bwasha village, Rutengye Parish, Kashambya Sub County, is reported to have had longstanding land-related conflicts with his brother, Tayebwa, which had been previously reported to various authorities.
According to Maate, on the evening of October 31, 2024, Turyatemba returned home around 8:00 p.m. after selling charcoal. Reportedly intoxicated, he told his wife that Tayebwa had assaulted him on his way back and that he was experiencing stomach pain. He instructed his wife to inform his mother about his condition, claiming his brother’s assault was “killing him.”
Turyatemba’s wife sought assistance from his mother, who, however, declined to respond that night, saying she would check on him in the morning. When the wife returned, she found Turyatemba dead in his bed and promptly reported the matter to Kashambya Police Station.
Maate said that Police visited the scene on the same evening, recorded statements from key witnesses, and detained the three suspects to assist in the investigation. Turyatemba’s body was taken to Kabale Referral Hospital for a postmortem before being handed over to his relatives for burial.
