KISORO: Some leaders and locals in Kisoro district have criticized Prime Minister Robina Nabbanja for suggesting that the government will drag Ugandans to the police for failing to escape poverty.

In a dramatic and humorous manner, Nabbanja suggested that the government might compel Ugandans who have not embraced various government projects to record statements at police stations. She emphasized that it is self-defeating for people to ignore poverty alleviation programs such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, and the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Program (UWEP) being rolled out across the country.

The Bufumbira East Member of Parliament, Dr. James Nsaba Buturo, stated that Parliament would oppose the Prime Minister’s suggestions, arguing that the wealthy should assist the poor in fighting poverty.
