RUBANDA: The State Minister of Finance (General Duties) Henry Musasizi, who is also the Member of Parliament for Rubanda East on Friday commissioned the Florence Mubonehe Memorial Health Centre in Rubanda District.
The health facility, located in Kyabahinga Cell, Kagarama Ward, Hamuhambo Town Council in Rubanda District, was established in memory of the late Florence Mubonehe.
The health centre, classified as a Health Centre II, was funded by the family of the late Mubonehe, who served as a nurse for 49 years at Bwama Health Centre III and Kabale Regional Referral Hospital before retiring. She passed away in 2016.
Mubonehe is survived by five children, three of whom are medical professionals (two doctors and a nurse), while the others are an accountant and a teacher.
During the commissioning ceremony, which took place across Lake Bunyonyi in Southwestern Uganda, Ms. Alice Kyarimpa, CEO and Founder of Good Shepherd Network a London-based charity spoke on behalf of the family. She explained that the health facility was built in memory of their late mother, who began her career as a traditional birth attendant before training as a nurse.
Ms. Kyarimpa emphasized that the facility would enhance access to medical services for the remote communities surrounding Lake Bunyonyi and contribute to saving lives.

In his remarks, Minister Musasizi expressed his gratitude to the family of the late Florence Mubonehe, particularly Ms. Alice Kyarimpa, for their contribution to the community.
He noted that the facility represents a lasting family legacy that will serve the health needs of the residents in Kagarama Ward and neighboring areas.

Rubanda District Secretary for Health and Education, Mr. Obed Mutatiina Kitabutuka, highlighted several achievements in the district since Musasizi assumed office as Minister of Finance in 2021.
Key projects include the ongoing construction of the first Rubanda District Community Hospital at a cost of 18.5 billion UGX, the elevation of Bufundi Health Centre III to Health Centre IV with an initial funding of 640 million UGX, the construction of a health facility at Sbeya-Hamurwa, and the planned elevation of Kagarama Health Centre II to Health Centre III, among others.
Meanwhile, Rubanda District Health Officer Dr. Abdon Birungi confirmed that the Florence Mubonehe Memorial Health Centre had met all the necessary standards to operate under the supervision of the Rubanda District Local Government. He also promised full support from his office. Dr. Birungi further announced that 660 people were diagnosed and treated during the free medical camp held before the commissioning event.
