KASESE: Following the confirmation of two mpox cases at Bwera General Hospital in Mpondwe Lhubiriha Town Council, Kasese District, last month, the Ministry of Health has deployed a team to strengthen surveillance at the border.
Hospital administrator Clarence Bwambale reported that the two patients, who had traveled from the Democratic Republic of Congo seeking medical attention, have since recovered and returned to their home country.
On Friday, Minister of State for Information and Communication Technology Godfrey Baluku Kabbyanga visited the border to assess the situation.
During the visit, our reporter observed hand-washing facilities and screenings in place, with individuals being required to wash their hands.
To combat the outbreak, the Ministry has deployed a mobile clinic and laboratory to expedite testing and provide rapid results. Minister Kabbyanga urged the public to strictly adhere to health guidelines and standard operating procedures to prevent further spread of the disease.
In a separate event, Hon. Florence Kabugho, Kasese District Woman MP, donated various seedlings to the South Rwenzori Diocesan Mothers Union groups. The donation took place at the Kamaiba Youth Centre in Kasese Town during the mothers’ union diocesan music competitions.
Kabugho highlighted the importance of mothers prioritizing their children’s health by cultivating vegetables in their home gardens. She encouraged the use of music, dance, and drama to spread the gospel while focusing on providing nutritious food for families.
The donated seedlings, which include tomatoes, cabbages, eggplants, and others, are intended to improve diet and overall health. Kabugho expressed hope that these seedlings will enable recipients to praise God with healthy bodies.
