KISORO: Laban Sibomana, a National Unity Platform (NUP) leader in Kisoro District, has expressed dissatisfaction with President Museveni’s recent appointment of musician Eddy Kenzo as a presidential adviser on creatives in Uganda.
Last Wednesday, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni appointed Edrisa Musuuza, popularly known as Eddy Kenzo, to the position of Senior Presidential Adviser on Creatives. Kenzo expressed gratitude to President Museveni for trusting him with the role, stating that he intends to bring more vibrancy to Ugandan art on the global stage while nurturing young talent to elevate Uganda’s flag even higher.
However, over the weekend, NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, criticized the appointment, accusing Museveni of attempting to placate musicians to stifle dissent. Kyagulanyi claimed that the government selectively supports certain artists to undermine those who address pressing societal issues. He also pointed out that the term “Ghetto” has gained respect from the government, attributing this change to the efforts and influence of activists.
Sibomana argued that Kenzo’s appointment is a strategic move by the National Resistance Movement (NRM) to weaken and diminish support for the National Unity Platform by exploiting the influence of music.
