KAMPALA: Police have refuted claims that Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine and the President of the National Unity Platform Party, was shot by security operatives on Tuesday evening in Wakiso District.

A tweet from the official NUP X account (formerly Twitter) alleged that Bobi Wine was shot in the leg and seriously injured by security operatives in Bulindo, Wakiso District.

However, Uganda Police Spokesperson ACP Kituuma Rusoke stated that while Kyagulanyi was returning from a thanksgiving ceremony for George Musisi in Bulindo, Kiira Municipality, Wakiso District, he and his team left their vehicles and began a procession through Bulindo town.

“During the ensuing altercation, it is alleged that he sustained injuries. Police officers on site claim he stumbled while getting into his vehicle, causing the injury, whereas Hon. Kyagulanyi and his team assert that he was shot,” Rusoke explained.

Rusoke noted that an investigation would be conducted to establish the facts.

Kyagulanyi was taken to Najaeem Medical Centre in Bulindo for first aid.

“The police will investigate the alleged shooting and any related incidents,” Rusoke added.
