Namanya Kakyene, one of the tour’s initiators, stated that they expect over 200 participants to join the tour, and all necessary transportation has already been secured.

“We have secured UWA buses to enhance the tour experience. These buses are usually reserved for foreign tourists, but this time, they will be in Rukungiri for our local people to enjoy,” Kakyene said.

He added that the route will cover Rukungiri – Mbarara Road, Ibanda – Kazo Road, Kyegegwa – Mubende Road, and Hoima – Bulisa Road. The tour is scheduled to depart from Rukungiri District on November 7th and return on November 10th.

Participants are required to pay UGX 170,000 for transportation, with additional costs for park entrance, food, and accommodation.

Rukungiri District Tourism Officer, Onyete Bingana, highlighted the importance of domestic tourism in driving economic growth through job creation, foreign exchange earnings, and infrastructure development.

“The private sector plays a vital role in promoting tourism. Tourism is demand-driven; when people plan trips to places like Bulisa, the government invests in improving infrastructure, ensuring safe and enjoyable travel experiences,” Bingana explained.

Bingana also revealed that the district received UGX 10 million from the Ministry of Tourism to boost tourism initiatives, noting that Rukungiri District boasts over 20 tourism sites.
