KABALE- The bishop of the diocese of Kigezi, the Rt Rev Gaddie Akanjuna on Sunday advised Christians across the diocese to embark at back yard gardens to fight poverty.
This was contained in his remarks after preaching at St Paul’s Rukore church of Uganda Archdeaconry in Lyakarimira town council, Ndorwa West County in Kabale district where he confirmed 162 confirmants into Anglican faith.
Bishop Akanjuna said that there is a need for Christians to start back yard gardens within their families if it is geared toward household transformation and eradicating poverty.
A recent poverty status report released by the Ministry of Finance showed that poverty is on a long-run decrease, having reduced from 56% in 1993 to 20.3% in 2021.
Bishop Akanjuna asked Christians to embrace the Parish Development Model (PDM), a government key strategy to uplift millions from poverty.
He also asked them to have team work, respect time and invest in growing Macadamia trees and Hass Avocado that earn much money to eradicate poverty.
