BUSHENYI: Police in Bushenyi District are investigating the sudden death of a businessman, Ruhigwa Isaac Atwiine, 54, who was found dead in a lodge on Wednesday.
Atwiine, a resident of Bwegiragye cell, Ward IV in Ishaka Division, had checked into the Deluxe Hotel in Kizinda with an unidentified woman around 6:00 PM, according to the Bushenyi Greater Police spokesperson, Martal Tumusiime.
“Upon arrival at the hotel reception, the deceased was holding a half glass of beer that he had brought with him from outside. His name and address were entered into the hotel register, but he instructed the receptionist not to record the woman’s details,” Tumusiime said.
The two were accommodated in Room D8. At approximately 7:30 PM, the woman was seen leaving the hotel alone. Shortly after, she contacted the hotel owner, identified as Dotcom, informing him that she had left the deceased in poor health.
Dotcom, who was not on the premises at the time, called the receptionist, Kihembo Vian, and asked him to check on the guest in Room D8. Upon entering the room, Kihembo found Atwiine unresponsive and immediately informed his boss, who notified the police.
“Inquiries have been opened under DEF: 018/2024. The crime scene was visited, examined, and documented by a team of police officers, including SOCO and the homicide team,” Tumusiime stated.
Atwiine’s body was transported to KIU Teaching Hospital for examination under forms PF48A and PF48B, and statements were taken from hotel staff on duty.
The deceased was found lying face down on the bed, fully covered with a blanket. Upon uncovering the body, police discovered he was completely naked. His clothes were neatly hung on nails in the room, and there were no visible signs of injury or struggle.
“A half glass of beer was found on the table in the room and recovered as part of the investigation,” Tumusiime added.
