KATAKWI: As schools prepare for the upcoming Uganda National Examinations (UNEB) scheduled for October 14, 2024, Priscilla Secondary School has organized a prayer service to dedicate the 92 candidates set to sit for the exams.
Mr. Emmanuel Ichila, the Deputy Head Teacher of Priscilla Girls Secondary School, stated that the prayer of blessing for the candidates is an annual tradition aimed at committing the students to God for academic success.
He made these remarks during the blessing ceremony held on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at the school premises. Ichila highlighted that this regular prayer has significantly contributed to the school’s performance in the past three years, citing the year 2023 when the school achieved eleven first-grade results.
Ichila encouraged the parents of the candidates to provide essential materials such as pencils, mathematical sets, and uniforms, ensuring their children are fully prepared for the exams.
“We admire the students’ perseverance, hard work, and commitment to attending lessons, which we believe will contribute to their success,” Ichila said. He further stressed the importance of time management and urged students to be organized during exam preparation.
According to Ichila, the school has completed the curriculum, mentally prepared the students, and is ready for the exams.
Founded in 2001 by Agiripina Amuge Akol, Priscilla Secondary School has established a reputation for academic excellence. This year, the school has registered 92 candidates for the UNEB exams 47 girls and 45 boys. The school currently has a total enrollment of 872 students, with 537 females and 335 males.
Two of the Senior Four candidates, Agasa Pedo and David Opero, expressed optimism about passing the exams after the blessing, stating that they were well-prepared.
“Based on what we’ve learned from our teachers, we’re ready to show our abilities in the upcoming exams,” the students said.
Sam Odeke, a lay reader from Aleles Church of Uganda (COU), also urged parents to provide their children with the necessary materials, such as pens and uniforms, and to offer full support during the exam period.
The blessing ceremony was led by Rev. John Robert Ojulong of St. Paul Church of Uganda, Usuk Archdeaconry. He encouraged the students to confess any sins, reflect on their actions, and approach the exams with a clear conscience.
Rev. Ojulong shared a message from Isaiah 41:10, reminding the students not to fear the exams. He advised them to think critically and remain calm during practical tests.
He also warned the students against engaging in activities such as drinking alcohol, smoking marijuana, and wearing inappropriate clothing, as mentioned in biblical teachings from Daniel 20 and John 13:31.
Above all, Ojulong urged the students to be faithful and diligent, noting that a brilliant mind is a gift from God.
He emphasized the importance of being respectful to teachers, parents, and elders, qualities that contribute to the success of any student.
