KASESE: A concerned lawyer in Kasese District has called on Members of Parliament and district leaders to update the public on the progress made in implementing the 17-point program they launched shortly after assuming office.
The program, introduced in 2021 at the District Multipurpose Hall in Kasese Town by all Members of Parliament from Kasese and two ministers, outlined key development priorities. These included elevating Kasese Airfield to international airport status, revamping Kilembe Mines and the railway line, and advocating for a public university.
Other priority issues included resettling flood victims currently encamped at Muhokya, securing the release of Omusinga and his royal guards from prison, de-silting the River Nyamwamba water channel, and improving security roads in the mountainous areas.
Robert Asingya Muthoma, a lawyer, emphasized the need for leaders to publicly account for the progress of these projects. While he commended the legislators for advocating for the release of Omusinga and his royal guards, he also urged them to provide a comprehensive report on the de-silting of River Nyamwamba, noting that the recurring floods pose a severe threat to lives in Kasese Town.
Muthoma further highlighted the need for a thorough investigation into the funds allocated by the government for de-silting works, as, according to him, there appears to be little to no visible progress.
Efforts to reach the Chairperson of the Kasese District Parliamentary Forum for comment were unsuccessful, as his known phone number could not be reached.
