KABALE: Kabale Regional Referral Hospital is currently stuck with the body of an unidentified adult male, allegedly killed by a mob after attempting to break into a shop in Kaharo Sub-County, Kabale District.
The body was discovered along the road near Nkumbura Trading Centre on Monday around 7:30 AM by Edmond Tumwesigye, who reported it to the Officer in Charge (OC) at Kaharo Police Post.
According to a police statement, the incident occurred on Sunday night at an unspecified time. The deceased reportedly broke into two shops at Nkumbura Trading Centre with two accomplices, who managed to escape the mob. The unidentified man was killed by local residents.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident. He explained that the OC informed the District Police Commander (DPC) and the District Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Officer, who responded to the scene with a team of homicide detectives to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Maate noted that the scene was examined and documented, and the body was transported to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem. Efforts are ongoing to identify the deceased. He urged anyone who might be missing a relative to visit the hospital mortuary to identify the body and arrange for a decent burial.
