KABALE – The Kabale Chief Magistrate Court on Thursday charged and granted bail to Rukiga District Local Government Inventory Management Officer six counts of theft, forgery and uttering false Documents at various health centers in Rukiga District.
Presided over by His Worship Derrick Byamugisha, the court heard from the prosecution that Memory Ayebare, between May 15th and June 29th, 2023, while at Ibumba Health Center II, unlawfully took government drugs, contravening Section 245(1) and 261 of the Penal Code Act.
The prosecution further alleged that Ayebare forged the stamp of the Rukiga District Local Government Health Officer (DHO) and the signature of Ketty Tushabomwe, violating Section 342 of the Penal Code Act.
Additionally, Ayebare faced four counts of uttering false documents. On May 15th, 2023, at Nyakashebeya Health Center II, she knowingly and fraudulently issued a false requisition and voucher receipt to Alex Muhumuza, violating Section 315 of the Penal Code Act.
The court also heard that on June 29th, 2023, at Kitunga Health Center II, Ayebare similarly issued false requisitions and voucher receipts to Perepetwa Nshabahurira, Mauscent Kemigisha, Hope Barisimaki, and Golden Mbabazi, all in contravention of Section 315 of the Penal Code Act.
Upon the reading of all six charges, Ayebare pleaded not guilty and subsequently applied for bail. Responding to her request, His Worship Byamugisha granted her a non-cash bail of Ugx 10 million. Each of her sureties was also bonded with a non-cash amount of Ugx 20 million. The case was adjourned until November 20th, 2023, for mention.
