Onyango reported that Ainembabazi’s employer, 39-year-old Niwagaba Praise, who is also a breastfeeding mother, raised the alarm after noticing Ainembabazi’s unusual delay in returning to the house.

“Upon investigating, Niwagaba found Ainembabazi in the pit latrine room with bloodstains on her clothes and the floor. She then heard the baby crying from inside the pit latrine,” Onyango explained.

Police were immediately notified, and a team of fire brigade personnel worked to rescue the baby.

“The baby was found alive, cleaned with warm water, and rushed to Kawempe Mulago Referral Hospital along with Ainembabazi, who was still bleeding,” Onyango said.

He confirmed that a case of attempted infanticide has been registered at Nansana Police Station, and investigations are ongoing.

“The police plan to interview Ainembabazi extensively to understand the circumstances surrounding her actions. We also intend to interview the baby’s father. Unfortunately, such incidents are not uncommon. For instance, a similar case occurred in Kasangati Town Council, Wakiso District, where a 25-year-old mother dumped her newborn in a pit latrine,” Onyango added.
