According to Uganda Police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma, the suspects were arrested on Monday and are currently detained at Luwero Central Police Station.
Kituuma stated that the stolen cocoa was allegedly offloaded at the residence of Bisaso Eric, a 44-year-old businessman, in Mabale Zone, Kiwogozi Ward, Luwero Town Council, Luwero District.
“The transporters allegedly diverted the cargo, which was being transported in a blue box body truck, to be sold to Bisaso Eric,” Kituuma said.
He added that investigations revealed the truck had left Bundibugyo District on January 4, 2025, and arrived in Luwero on January 6, 2025, at 6:00 a.m.
Further inquiries indicated that Bisaso contacted Katongole Jackson, a 42-year-old loader and resident of Kalongo Miti in Luwero Town Council, to assist in offloading the cocoa. The estimated weight of the stolen consignment is 23 tonnes.
Kituuma confirmed that at least 177 bags of cocoa were recovered and are being held as exhibits at Luwero Central Police Station as investigations continue.
