KABALE: The State Minister of Finance (General Duties), Henry Musasizi Ariganyira, has announced the Government’s decision to refrain from introducing any new taxes in the 2025/2026 financial year.
Minister Musasizi, who also represents Rubanda East in Parliament, made the announcement on Friday during the Giveaway Ceremony of Doreen Atukunda, the daughter of renowned businessman Cyril Mugyenyi, at Parabolic Gardens in Kabale District.
Minister Musasizi explained that the Government’s focus would be on improving the utilization of existing taxes, alongside addressing challenges such as corruption in government institutions, particularly those managing public funds.
“We believe that by effectively utilizing the taxes already collected and reducing corruption in agencies like Uganda Revenue Authority, we can operate without needing to introduce new taxes,” he said.
The Minister also expressed appreciation to the business community for their commitment to fulfilling tax obligations, highlighting how tax revenues are used to fund essential services across the country.
“I understand that paying taxes can sometimes feel burdensome, but it is the primary means by which we maintain the peace, security, and development of our country—funding operations in security, road construction, electricity, healthcare, and more,” he said.
