KITGUM: Parish chiefs, Community Development Officers (CDOs), and Parish Development Model (PDM) chairpersons in Kitgum District have received a significant boost to their operations with the distribution of 165 tablets, chargers, and power banks.
The tools were officially handed over by Alex Opira, the PDM Focal Person for Kitgum District, and Okidi Joseph, the Assistant Resident District Commissioner (RDC) in charge of Chua West Constituency, during a ceremony held at the District Council Hall on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.
Opira emphasized that the distribution of these devices is aimed at streamlining data collection processes and enhancing the implementation of the PDM program within the district.
Speaking at the event, he highlighted the importance of effectively utilizing the tools and cautioned parish chiefs and SACCO leaders against extorting money from beneficiaries during the registration process.
“The distribution of these tools is a step towards ensuring efficient service delivery and transparency in implementing the Parish Development Model. Leaders must prioritize the needs of beneficiaries and avoid practices that undermine trust,” said Opira.
Meanwhile, Assistant RDC Okidi Joseph expressed his gratitude to the government for addressing the logistical challenges faced by local leaders. He acknowledged the difficulties encountered during enterprise selection by beneficiaries but pledged to intensify sensitization efforts to improve understanding and participation in the PDM program.
“We have faced challenges from beneficiaries, especially in selecting viable enterprises. However, we are committed to educating them on the available opportunities to ensure the success of the program,” Okidi stated.
