UDI is an Australian-based Non-Governmental Organization co-founded by Uthman Abubakar Sudais, a Ugandan-Australian kickboxer originally from Kitgum.
The announcement was made during the grand opening of Uthman’s Majids mosque, a new place of worship dedicated to fostering the values of Islam, peace, and community harmony.
Speaking at the mosque’s inauguration, Uthman emphasized the dual mission of the project: “This mosque stands as a testament to the grace and mercy of Allah, serving as a beacon for worship, knowledge, and community unity. Through our upcoming academy and technical school, we hope to identify and nurture talents across various sports, while also providing technical skills that will empower our youth.”
Addressing the community in Auch Cell, Pandwong Division, Kitgum Municipality, Uthman shared that land for the project has already been secured. Preparations and necessary paperwork are currently underway to officially commence construction.
Uthman also revealed that his inspiration for building the mosque came from Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, a site of great significance in Islam.
“Al-Aqsa holds a special place in the hearts of Muslims. It was from there that the Prophet Muhammad was transported to the heavens during the Night Journey. It’s my hope that Uthman’s Majids will serve as a similar spiritual and community hub for Kitgum.” He said.
The community welcomed the initiative with enthusiasm, expressing hope that the project will not only enhance educational and sports opportunities but also strengthen unity and peace in the Region.
