RUKIGA: The Rukiga District Vice Chairperson, Samuel Niwandinda, has protested his removal from office, accusing District Chairperson Robert Mbabazi Kakwerere of acting out of anger and disrespecting the district council.

In a letter dated February 5, 2025, Chairperson Kakwerere informed the district speaker of Niwandinda’s dismissal, instructing him to hand over office to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). Kakwerere cited insubordination and breach of the oath of allegiance as reasons for Niwandinda’s removal.

When contacted by our reporter, Niwandinda who also serves as the councilor representing Rwamucucu Sub-county and the Secretary for Finance, Planning, and Administration dismissed the allegations, stating that Kakwerere’s actions were unjustified and a clear show of disrespect to the district council.

He further alleged that Kakwerere’s decision was politically motivated, following his recent declaration of interest to contest against the Chairperson in the upcoming elections.

“I will not hand over the office to the CAO because the decision to remove me must come from the district council’s minutes, not just from the Chairperson,” Niwandinda insisted.
