However, he accused some local leaders from Napak of fueling the conflict for personal gain.

“Unfortunately, some leaders are inciting violence to serve their interests,” he noted, adding that the UPDF, in collaboration with the police, will investigate and hold those responsible accountable.

Despite the tensions, Brig. Gen. Sserunkuma reported an 80% recovery rate of the stolen livestock.

Vincent Savior Okwi, Katakwi’s Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC), stated that UPDF intervention had prevented further violence. He attributed the escalation to Karimojong community members crossing into Teso territory to plough land, sparking tensions.

“We are allowing the situation to normalize before engaging both communities and their leaders to resolve the dispute,” Okwi said.

Vice President Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Rose Alupo urged security forces to remain vigilant, reaffirming the government’s commitment to restoring peace in the region.

She also cautioned against rampant land sales, citing them as a key factor fueling disputes.

The UPDF and other security agencies have reassured the public that investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible for instigating the clashes, with the ultimate goal of ensuring lasting peace between the two communities.
