KASESE: Kasese District continues to record increasing cases of domestic violence, including conflicts among married couples and disputes between women over men.

In January this year, SP Luka Mbusa, the Rwenzori East Regional Police Community Liaison Officer, highlighted that promiscuity, particularly among men who work far from home, plays a significant role in these conflicts. He noted that some men deceive women into believing they are single, leading to relationships that result in children. Later, the women discover they are part of a polygamous arrangement, sparking disputes.

SP Mbusa explained that such conflicts often lead to physical fights, some of which tragically escalate into severe injuries, loss of property, and even fatalities.

In a recent case of domestic violence, a 35-year-old man, Hussein Kisohumu Kadogo, allegedly severed the hands of his wife, Esther Mbambu, also known as Nya-Azida, in Road-Barrier Cell, Kasese Municipality last week. Mbambu is currently receiving treatment at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital.

In another incident, a 65-year-old retired police officer, Sipriano Kyakwire, killed his wife, Masika Night Kihimba, 48, in Kakone I Village, Bwera Sub-county, following a domestic dispute.

On Monday, March 24, 2025, the local council chairperson for Kizungu Cell in Kasese Municipality, Phenahas Wakibanahi, reported that a man identified as Brian Bwambale had allegedly threatened to kill his wife, Patience Ithungu (24), a breastfeeding mother, along with their two children.
