The Bishop of Kabale Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Callist Rubaramira, has called on Christians across the diocese to emulate the late Pope Francis’ deep devotion to Mary, the Mother of Jesus, and his life of humility.
Delivering a homily during a requiem mass for the late Pope at Our Lady of Good Shepherd Cathedral, Rushoroza in Kabale Municipality on Friday morning, Bishop Rubaramira highlighted Pope Francis’ commitment to prayer and his veneration of the Virgin Mary.
He noted that the late Pope would often visit Marian shrines before and after his pastoral visits around the world, placing his intentions before Mary.
Bishop Rubaramira also praised the Pope’s humble lifestyle, pointing out his decision to reside in the Vatican guesthouse rather than the more luxurious papal apartments. He further cited examples of the Pope’s humility, such as his use of public transport, visits to slums, and his symbolic act of washing the feet of a Muslim prisoner during a Holy Thursday service.
The Bishop emphasized Pope Francis’ dedication to addressing pressing global issues, especially economic inequality and the plight of refugees. He said the late Pope consistently advocated for the poor, marginalized, and vulnerable, pushing for policies aimed at tackling injustice and inequality.
