The National Chairman of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has called upon all NRM members to fully participate in the upcoming baraza meetings aimed at verifying the party register and electing NRM flag-bearers for the LCI chairmanship, along with the establishment of village NRM structures.
President Museveni emphasized that these two critical activities, register verification and the election of LCI NRM flag-bearers and village structures must strictly take place between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM on Tuesday, May 6, 2025.
“The NRM Electoral Commission will provide all necessary details,” he noted.
President Museveni announced that he will personally participate in the register verification exercise in his home village of Rwakitura, while First Lady Maama Janet Kataaha Museveni will take part in the same process in Ireenga, Ntungamo.
However, President Museveni made it clear that he will not back any candidate during the elections, stating:
“As Chairman of the NRM, I welcome any choice made by the Party members. I cannot and should not, therefore, take sides.”
Meanwhile, NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi urged supervisors and officials involved in the process to uphold internal democracy by respecting the decisions of the electorate.
“Maintain discipline, be punctual, cooperate with your team leaders, provide timely feedback, and address any gaps with urgency. With everyone’s cooperation, we are confident of a successful outcome,” Dr. Tanga said.
He also reminded the supervisors of their primary role:
“You are observers. Your responsibility is to monitor and update the National Secretariat for necessary interventions. You have no role in the voting, counting, or declaration of results beyond observation and guidance.”
The register verification and elections for NRM LCI flag-bearers and village structures will be conducted across 72,000 NRM polling stations nationwide.
