Police in Rubanda District are searching for suspects who allegedly attacked and seriously injured Detective Corporal (D/CPL) Saturday Sebastian, 38, the Scenes of Crime Officer for the district, in an attempted motorcycle robbery.
The violent incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. on Saturday at Ihanga Trading Centre, located in Ihanga Parish, Bubaare Sub-county.
According to police reports, Sebastian was riding a motorcycle with registration number UFZ 316X from Kabale Town back to Rubanda Central Police Station when he was intercepted by two motorcycles, each carrying two men armed with pangas (machetes). The assailants ordered him to surrender the motorcycle.
When Sebastian resisted and diverted toward a nearby home, the attackers pursued him and assaulted him, inflicting deep cuts to his head, arms, and shoulder.
The occupants of the home intervened, prompting the suspects to flee the scene on their motorcycles, leaving the officer critically injured.
Sebastian was later rushed to Rugarama Hospital by Good Samaritans and is currently receiving medical treatment.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident. He stated that a team from Rubanda Central Police Station visited and documented the crime scene.
Maate appealed to the public to share any information that could help identify and apprehend the perpetrators, so they can be brought to justice.
