The Deputy Secretary General of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), Rt Hon Namayanja Rose Nsereko, has highlighted the notable development strides achieved in Greater Luwero under the leadership of President Yoweri Museveni.
Speaking during the “Buganda for Museveni” rally held on Sunday at Kasana Playgrounds in Luwero District, Namayanja pointed to significant progress in education and livelihoods as clear indicators of the NRM’s impact in the region.
“Though Luwero has not yet reached its full potential, we have come a long way,” she said. “From just 57 schools in the past, the region now boasts 1,497 schools a clear result of the NRM’s commitment to ensuring every parish has a UPE school and every sub-county a government seed school.”
Namayanja also underscored the transformative role of the Parish Development Model (PDM), through which Luwero District alone has received Shs 26.33 billion to empower communities and stimulate grassroots socio-economic growth.
“This is development by the people, for the people,” she emphasized.
Addressing internal party affairs, she praised the ongoing NRM grassroots elections and dismissed claims of inflated registers. “Participation at parish and sub-county levels proves our structures are strong and active. District-level elections will proceed next Friday,” she affirmed.
Attorney General Hon. Kiryowa Kiwanuka reaffirmed the government’s commitment to Luwero, announcing that Shs 1.2 billion has already been released for the construction of district headquarters, with an additional Shs 6.1 billion earmarked for the current financial year.
He also unveiled plans for a Shs 2.5 billion fruit factory aimed at promoting agro-industrialisation and reducing post-harvest losses an integral part of President Museveni’s economic vision.
Hon. Agnes Kirabo Nantongo, Central Region Youth MP and host of the rally, pledged to strengthen the link between government and citizens, vowing to “lobby tirelessly for Luwero’s advancement under the NRM.”
