Rukungiri Municipality has disbursed more than Shs 60 million to newly funded community groups through its Community-Based Services Department.

According to Twesigomwe Johnbosco, the Principal Community Development Officer (PCDO) for Rukungiri Municipality, a total of Shs 60,326,700 was allocated to nine groups under three major government programs.

Four groups under the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Program (UWEP) received Shs 33.4 million to support women’s economic empowerment. Two groups under the Special Grant for Older Persons (SEGOP) were allocated Shs 6.9 million to improve the livelihoods of the elderly, while three groups under the Special Grant for Persons with Disabilities (PWDS) received Shs 20 million to enhance opportunities for persons with disabilities.

Twesigomwe urged the beneficiary groups to use the funds responsibly and stay committed to implementing their planned projects. He emphasized the importance of repaying UWEP funds to ensure that more groups can benefit from the program in the future.
