Artists aligned with the National Resistance Movement (NRM) have formed a new umbrella body to promote the party’s achievements and government initiatives through music and art.
The newly launched group, named the Movement Combined Artistes Association, is led by Emma Nsereko, popularly known as Munamasaka.
The association was officially commissioned on June 4 at the NRM Secretariat. Speaking at the event, NRM Secretary General Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong welcomed the initiative, emphasizing the power of music as a communication tool.
“A message conveyed through music reaches deeper and carries greater meaning it can be understood even by those who may not grasp formal language,” Todwong said. “When artists sing about the peace the NRM government has brought, people connect with it and understand the journey our country has taken.”
Todwong also revealed plans for the party to launch a nationwide competition to create an official NRM anthem.
“We currently don’t have a party anthem, so we want to initiate a competitive process to find one,” he said.
He encouraged artists to keep building their association, highlighting the vast talent within the country that the party hopes to identify and support.
NRM’s Director for Information and Public Relations, Hon. Emmanuel Dombo, noted that the association would serve as an effective platform for mobilizing both established and emerging artists.
“With this association, we won’t just spread the message, we will also coordinate efforts without unnecessary internal conflicts,” Dombo said. He emphasized the role of music, art, and social media in simplifying and communicating the NRM’s message to the broader public.
Dombo also proposed turning the NRM manifesto into music and performance art to increase accessibility and understanding among citizens.
He acknowledged past challenges in supporting musicians, especially around financial issues, and urged transparency and unity among the association’s leaders.
“Respect and coordination are key to producing quality work. If done right, the achievements of the NRM government will be reflected through your art,” he said.
Dombo contrasted this with the opposition, which he claimed has been weakened by internal conflicts and lack of unity.
Munamasaka expressed gratitude to the NRM Secretariat for its support and pledged to rally more young artists to promote government programs and raise awareness about the party’s contributions to national development.
