Rukungiri businessman and prominent National Resistance Movement (NRM) supporter Ambrose Kibuuka Tumwesigye has officially picked up expression of interest forms from the NRM Electoral Commission offices in Kampala, marking a significant step in his bid to challenge and unseat the incumbent Rujumbura County Member of Parliament, Major General (Rtd) Jim Muhwezi Katugugu.
Kibuuka’s move signals a firm intention to reshape the political landscape in Rujumbura County as the 2026 general elections approach.
A well-established entrepreneur, Kibuuka serves as the Executive Director of several companies, including Site Man Construction Company, Sena Graphic Company, and Tiger Security Agency.
He is also the former Chairperson of the MK Movement in the Kigezi Subregion, cementing his influence in both the business and political arenas.
During an interview with The Source Reports, Kibuuka expressed his commitment to bringing development-focused leadership to Rujumbura.
“I have picked these forms with a heart full of hope and commitment to serve my people,” he said. “Rujumbura deserves better services, improved infrastructure, and youth empowerment. I believe with my experience and networks, I can deliver that.”
Kibuuka also called on the public particularly the youth to engage actively in the democratic process and support candidates with a track record of promoting development.
“Our people need leaders who are action-oriented and ready to speak for them. I encourage citizens to remain peaceful, united, and focused as we approach the elections,” he added.
Kibuuka’s candidacy is expected to energize the political scene in Rujumbura and may significantly influence the dynamics of the 2026 race.
