The Kabale High Court has dismissed a case in which former Rukiga District Vice Chairperson, Samuel Niwandinda, sued District Chairperson Robert Mbabazi Kakwerere over what he termed as wrongful dismissal from his position.

During a court session on Wednesday presided over by Resident Judge Justice Karoli Lwanga Ssemogerere, Niwandinda’s lawyer, Patience Nasiima, informed the court that both parties had met and, in the interest of the development of Rukiga District and given their longstanding friendship, agreed to resolve the matter amicably and withdraw the case.

Justice Ssemogerere then turned to Kakwerere’s lawyer, Godwin Kumwesiga, who confirmed that the parties had indeed reached a mutual agreement. Consequently, Justice Ssemogerere dismissed the case without awarding costs to either side, acknowledging the peaceful resolution.

Speaking to journalists at the High Court premises, Kumwesiga commended the reconciliation, emphasizing that no conflict is beyond resolution. He noted that the court proceedings demonstrated the potential for unity and understanding, even amid political disputes.

“This is testimony that parties can reconcile despite their differences,” Kumwesiga stated.

The case stems from an incident in February, when Kakwerere dismissed Niwandinda, citing insubordination and breach of the oath of allegiance.

He invoked Section 20(a) of the Local Governments Act to justify his decision, removing Niwandinda from both the position of District Vice Chairperson and as an Executive Member.
