The Minister of Security, Maj. Gen. Jim Katugugu Muhwezi, was officially nominated on Friday to contest in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) primary elections for the Rujumbura County Member of Parliament seat in Rukungiri District.
The nomination ceremony was presided over by the NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi, and witnessed by NRM Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, along with other members of the party’s Electoral Commission.
“I now duly nominate Maj. Gen. Jim Katugugu Muhwezi to contest for the position of Member of Parliament for Rujumbura County, having fulfilled all the necessary requirements,” Dr. Tanga declared.
Minister Muhwezi was nominated alongside the State Minister for Ethics and Integrity, Hon. Rose Lilly Akello, who is contesting for the Karenga Woman MP seat, and the Vice President of the Republic of Uganda, H.E. Maj. (Rtd.) Jessica Alupo.
Speaking to journalists after his nomination, Minister Muhwezi expressed deep gratitude to his supporters.
“I am deeply honoured and humbled to have been nominated as the NRM flag bearer for Rujumbura County. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the people who have placed their confidence in me during this primary election. Your trust is not taken lightly,” he said.
He emphasized that his candidacy is rooted in service and development, not political theatrics.
“Let me be clear: I did not enter this race to trade words in the theatre of politics or engage in spectacle. I came to continue the real, tangible work that transforms lives and uplifts communities. In place of division, I choose the quiet strength of service, the relentless pursuit of development, and the discipline of delivery.”
Minister Muhwezi reaffirmed his alignment with the core mission of the NRM, which he described as being based on peace, stability, transformation, and prosperity for all Ugandans.
“That mission is bigger than personalities or politics. My goal is not to outtalk my opponents, but to outwork them.”
He shared his vision for Rujumbura County, highlighting the need for improved education, agricultural support, youth empowerment, and visionary leadership.
“I envision a future where children study in well-equipped schools, where farmers access better markets and technologies, where the youth become job creators, and where every citizen feels the impact of responsible leadership,” he said.
“Nationally, I hope to be part of the generation that transforms Uganda into a modern economy rooted in patriotism, hard work, and unity.”
He concluded by calling for unity and a shared commitment to national progress.
“I invite all well-meaning Ugandans, regardless of political affiliation, to join hands and focus on what truly matters, our shared progress. Today marks not just a nomination, but a commitment: to serve, to lead, and to deliver.” He stated.
NRM Secretary General Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong congratulated all the nominees and expressed confidence in a peaceful and transparent electoral process. He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to upholding democratic principles throughout the internal elections.
