KISORO: The Bufumbira East Member of Parliament, Dr James Nsaba Buturo, has strongly condemned the rampant land grabbing and the recent chaos that erupted in the Kisoro District Council.

On March 20, 2025, a violent protest broke out during a Kisoro District Council meeting, forcing Speaker Amos Hakizimana and LCV Chairperson Abel Bizimana to flee for their safety.

The unrest stemmed from a contentious public land dispute involving a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) and the Kisoro District Local Government. The proposed MoU sought to grant UWA public land on a free leasehold basis. However, councilors strongly opposed the agreement, demanding more time to review its contents before any decision could be made.

Additionally, Hon. Dr. Nsababuturo cautioned the public against accepting money from foreign entities to engage in acts of homosexuality. He claimed that since the enactment of the Anti-Homosexuality Bill in 2023, foreign organizations have been funding NGOs, schools, and other institutions to promote the practice.

He further noted that he and his colleagues have faced harassment from some foreign countries due to their support for the law criminalizing homosexuality.
