Police in Kisoro District are actively investigating a robbery incident in which two women were attacked and robbed by unknown assailants on Monday June 16, 2025, at around 9:00 PM in Bihuru Village, Gasinza Parish, Nyakabande Sub-county.
The victims have been identified as: Ndyowawe Ishamel, 20, a manager at KG Mini Petrol Station in Bihuru Village and Birungi Sarah, 26, a businesswoman operating a retail shop in the same village.
According to preliminary reports, two men wearing face masks, one of whom was armed with a gun, first attacked Ishamel while she was on duty at the petrol station. They ordered her to surrender a bag containing the day’s sales and warned her against raising an alarm, threatening her life. Fearing for her safety, she complied and handed over the bag.
The suspects then moved approximately 30 meters to Birungi Sarah’s shop, where they similarly ordered her to open her drawer and surrender all the money inside. Out of fear, she also complied. After the robbery, the suspects fired two bullets into the air as they fled the scene in an unknown direction.
The incident was promptly reported by Ishamel to her supervisor, Kamaana Elisa, who then informed the District Police Commander (DPC).
Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed that the crime scene was immediately visited, examined, and documented. Maate said that a police canine was introduced to assist in tracking the suspects, but no leads were established as the scene had already been compromised. However, two cartridges were recovered from the location.
Maate further noted that while some businesses like the petrol station operate until 10:00 PM and are often staffed by a single attendant per shift, it is advisable for such establishments to employ security guards and install CCTV cameras as preventive security measures and to aid in suspect identification.
