KANUNGU- Police in Kanungu District have apprehended three Suspects for questioning regarding the alleged murder of Hamlet Tusasibwe, a 50-year-old resident of Nyamishamba village, Rujengwe parish, Kayonza sub-county, Kanungu district.
According to Elly Maate, the spokesperson for the Kigezi region police, yesterday at approximately 7:00 AM, the deceased’s 12-year-old son, Atuzarirwe Onesmus, who worked as a casual laborer, went to check on his mother. He discovered that the front door was open, but there was no response when he called out.
Maate explained that Atusasire entered the deceased’s room and found her lifeless body lying face down in a pool of blood beneath the bed.
Her neck was wrapped in a cloth used for strangulation, and there were injuries on the left side of her forehead, presumably caused by a blunt object.
Immediately, Atusasire rushed to inform his older brothers about their mother’s death.
They arrived at the scene, and together, they informed the community members about the tragic incident.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased had been accused of practicing witchcraft by community members.
In response to these allegations, Cpl Byaruhanga Sam of the Kayonza Police Post conducted community policing three times, but unfortunately, the community did not respond positively.
Maate confirmed that the crime scene was examined and documented.
The body was examined at the place of discovery, and three suspects were apprehended at the scene and are currently in police custody. Other individuals involved are still at large, awaiting prosecution.
