MBARARA- Police in Mbarara City South Division are currently investigating an arson case that occurred at approximately 8:00 AM, resulting in the destruction of the senior one boy’s dormitory at Welden School.
The dormitory, which accommodated 50 students, was completely gutted, leading to the loss of all property inside. The incident took place while the students were engaged in morning prep.
The school is located in Kitebero cell, Katete ward, Mbarara City.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the arson incident, as confirmed by Samson Kasasira, the spokesperson for the Rwizi region police.
Prompt action was taken by the Police Fire and Rescue Services team, who swiftly responded to the scene and managed to extinguish the fire.
Their quick intervention prevented the flames from spreading to other buildings within the school premises.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire was intentionally started by a group of undisciplined students with the aim of causing damage to school property.
