A recent report by the Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) has revealed that Kisoro District tops the Kigezi sub-region in reported cases of human rights violations and domestic violence.

Theopista Twembi, head of the UHRC Kabale Regional Office, disclosed this during a community orientation meeting held on Tuesday at Nyakinama Sub County headquarters. The session aimed to educate residents on human rights and address the rising domestic conflicts in the area.

During the interactive discussion, community members identified several causes of household disputes, including women taking loans without spousal consent and men being denied permission by their wives to sell family property during financial hardships.

Twembi emphasized the importance of understanding and respecting human rights within families, highlighting a significant increase in domestic violence across local communities.
