Ms Jacqueline Katabazi has officially launched her campaign to challenge the embattled Commissioner and incumbent Rubanda District Woman Member of Parliament, Prossy Mbabazi Akampurira Begumisa, in the upcoming National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primaries.
Duly nominated on Tuesday, Katabazi unveiled her campaign platform anchored on five core pillars: education, health, infrastructure, youth and women empowerment and unity.

“Rubanda needs more than promises, we need action,” she told supporters during a rally held Thursday at Bubaare Trading Centre in Bubaare Town Council, Rubanda East County.
Highlighting the dire state of the district’s healthcare system, Katabazi vowed to champion increased funding, a consistent drug supply, and improved staffing in health centers, particularly in underserved rural areas.

“Our health centers are struggling. I will advocate for better staffing and reliable medical supplies to improve service delivery,” she emphasized.

During her address to residents at various trading centers, Katabazi pledged to prioritize maternal health by ensuring access to essential resources such as ambulances and Maama Kits.

“I plan to procure two ambulances, one for Rubanda East and another for Rubanda West, to ease access to health facilities, especially for pregnant mothers,” she said. “This initiative will support our mothers and ensure safer deliveries.”

Katabazi underscored the importance of prenatal care, noting that regular check-ups are vital for fetal development, early detection of complications, and management of pre-existing conditions.
In the education sector, she announced plans to introduce a “School Fund” to support underprivileged children who drop out due to financial hardship.

“I have seen many children in our communities abandon school because of fees. My School Fund initiative will help reduce this burden and keep our children in classrooms,” she stated.
Katabazi also committed to promoting skilling initiatives to reduce unemployment and boost household incomes.

Her entry into the race sets the stage for a high-stakes contest within the ruling party as the race for the NRM flag bearer intensifies ahead of the 2026 general elections.

She will face competition from fellow aspirants Evelyn Ninsiima Kikafunda, Grace Mugabirwe, and incumbent MP Prossy Mbabazi Akampurira Begumisa, all of whom have also been duly nominated to vie for the seat.
