Minister of Finance (General Duties), Hon. Henry Musasizi, has cautioned religious leaders in Rubanda District against interfering in the upcoming National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primaries set for July 16, 2025.
Speaking during a community engagement in Katoma, Katungu, Kashaki A, and Kashaki B villages in Nyamiyaga Parish, Bubaare Town Council, Rubanda East on Tuesday, Minister Musasizi criticized the politicization of the pulpit. He reaffirmed his commitment to people-centered campaigns and highlighted achievements under his leadership, including improved infrastructure, access to electricity, clean water, healthcare, education, and the implementation of the Parish Development Model.
Musasizi’s remarks were in response to Bishop Rt. Rev. Gaddie Akanjuna of the Diocese of Kigezi, who, during a June 15 confirmation service at Nyamweru Church of Uganda, publicly endorsed Jogo Kenneth Biryabarema for the Rubanda East parliamentary seat. Bishop Akanjuna encouraged worshippers to support Biryabarema in the NRM primaries.
In a sharp response, Musasizi accused the Bishop of exceeding his spiritual mandate and fostering religious sectarianism. He emphasized his commitment to NRM values and warned that political decisions in Rubanda East should not be influenced by religious bias.
Minister Musasizi further directed NRM registrars to prohibit prayers at polling stations on voting day to preserve electoral neutrality.
Appealing for re-election, Minister Musasizi urged voters to prioritize experience and proven service delivery over political experimentation. He also lauded his collaboration with Rubanda LC5 Chairman Stephen Ampeire Kasyaba as a foundation for continued progress.
