The Kabale District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Catherine Ndamira Atwakiire, has warned officials involved in the ongoing nationwide mass registration and renewal of National Identity Cards against soliciting money from applicants, cautioning that such actions could lead to arrest.

Hon. Atwakiire issued the warning on Thursday during the burial of Steven Twebaze in Bushuro Village, Bushuro Parish, Kitumba Sub-county, Kabale District. Her remarks followed complaints from mourners who claimed that some officials were demanding money in exchange for registration services.

She emphasized that registration for National IDs is free of charge, in accordance with government policy, and that any demand for payment is illegal.

Atwakiire also condemned the violence and irregularities that often mar National Resistance Movement-NRM primary elections, urging voters to maintain discipline during both campaigns and voting days.
