Police in Kabale District are investigating the mysterious death of Mwerinde Broad, 57, a resident of Murambo Village, Buranga Parish in Kamuganguzi Sub County, whose body was discovered lying on a bed inside his house.
According to preliminary police reports, Mwerinde was attacked at an unknown time on Monday night by unidentified assailant(s) and was beaten to death while at his home.
The body was discovered on Tuesday at around 8:30 PM by Birungi Patrick Paddy, who had gone to check on him. Birungi immediately informed Mwerinde’s relatives and the matter was reported to the area LC I Chairperson, Jackline Mbangirwoha, who then notified Kamuganguzi Police Station.
The case was later referred to Kabale Central Police Station for further investigations.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident and said a team of detectives visited the scene, documented evidence and transported the body to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination.
Maate also revealed that two suspects have been arrested to assist in the investigation, although their identities have been withheld to avoid jeopardizing the case.
