Parliamentary aspirants in Kisoro Municipality have pledged to uplift residents’ livelihoods by introducing and scaling up development projects targeting poverty eradication.
While addressing a joint campaign rally at Gatovu and Kasemisego in the Southern Division on Friday, Dr. Leo Mfitimana promised to extend support to villages that have not yet benefited from government piggery or poultry projects, especially those focusing on women and youth.
He emphasized that these initiatives would help families achieve financial independence and economic growth.
Dr. Mfitimana also encouraged leaders to embrace effective communication, unity, and cooperation to ensure proper representation of their communities once elected.
Meanwhile, Emmanuel Maniraguha, another contender, revealed plans to construct a new hotel in Nkuringo Town Council to create employment opportunities for the youth.
Maniraguha, who already owns Tourland Hotel in Kisoro Municipality, also pledged to extend electricity and gravity-flow water systems to the people of Gatovu.
Sam Byibesho, also vying for the parliamentary seat, pledged to champion the Women Entrepreneurship Program to ensure all women benefit, and to promote youth development through the Youth Livelihood Program.
He further promised to work towards elevating Kisoro Municipality’s status and infrastructure.
The pledges were made as candidates ramp up their campaigns ahead of the 2026 general elections, with residents calling for practical solutions to long-standing economic challenges.
