The body of an unidentified adult female has been discovered floating in the waters of River Ntungwa in Kiruruma Cell, Rushaki Parish, Nyamirama Sub-county, Kanungu District.
According to preliminary reports, on May 17, 2026, at around 8:00 p.m., Sabit Turyagyenda Julius, the LC1 Chairperson of Kibarama Cell, received a phone call from one of the residents informing him about a body seen floating in River Ntungwa in Kiruruma Cell.
The following morning, Turyagyenda, accompanied by local residents, went to the river and discovered the decomposing body of an adult female unknown to the area residents.
The matter was immediately reported to police, who retrieved the body and transported it to Kambuga Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi regional police spokesperson, called upon anyone with a missing female relative to visit the hospital mortuary to help identify the deceased and accord her a decent burial.
Maate added that investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death are ongoing as police continue efforts to establish the woman’s identity.
