A scheduled joint campaign for NRM Woman MP aspirants in Katakwi District took a dramatic twist on Saturday as three candidates, Violet Akurut Adome, Angela Anuken and Cecilia Anyakoit boycotted the rally in Okore Sub-county, leaving Vice President Her Excellency Maj (Rtd) Jessica Alupo Epel to campaign solo.
The rally, which was expected to feature all four contenders vying for the NRM flag in the Katakwi Woman MP race, instead turned into a solo show of strength for Vice President Alupo, who was represented by her lead campaigner, Counsel Odeke Raymond.
She was warmly welcomed by jubilant supporters, who chanted praises and reaffirmed their loyalty to what they called the “darling and mother of Katakwi and Teso.”
According to voters in Okore Sub-county, they have already resolved to support the Vice President in the forthcoming party primaries, citing her strong track record and the development benefits Katakwi has received under her leadership.
“Alupo is our favourite candidate for the next election. She has delivered on her promises, and we trust her because she has the full support of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni,” said several enthusiastic residents.
Esther Adeke, the LC3 Vice Chairperson of Okore Sub-county, applauded the Vice President’s team for conducting a peaceful and law-abiding campaign in line with NRM guidelines.
“As leaders of Okore, we do not want to see a repeat of the chaotic 2020 NRM primaries. We have agreed to vote for the Vice President for the betterment of Katakwi District,” Adeke emphasized.
Richard Ogwara, the NRM Sub-county Registrar overseeing the campaign, also welcomed the Vice President’s team and assured the public of peaceful elections this time.
“Okore suffered during the 2020 elections due to interference from external individuals, but we are confident it won’t happen again,” Ogwara said.
Meanwhile, Counsel Odeke Raymond, while addressing NRM supporters, outlined the Vice President’s manifesto and called on residents to conduct peaceful primaries and general elections.
He reiterated Alupo’s message encouraging unity, development, and disciplined participation in the electoral process.
