President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has joined the nation in mourning the death of retired Supreme Court Judge, Prof. George Wilson Kanyeihamba.

“It is with great sorrow that I learnt of the passing of our friend, Prof. Kanyeihamba,” President Museveni stated.

Reflecting on their early encounters, the President recalled first meeting Prof. Kanyeihamba during the famous debate between Prof. Ali Mazrui and Dr. Walter Rodney at Makerere University. “Prof. Mazrui remarked he was not in conflict with Dr. Rodney, to which Rodney replied they couldn’t be in conflict because they were not even in touch.

UuRodney was focused on true independence, while Mazrui spoke of neo-colonialism.”

President Museveni further noted that he later met Kanyeihamba in the UK, where he served as part of the NRM’s external committee during the 1981–1986 liberation struggle.
