The Rubanda District LC5 Chairperson, Stephen Ampeire Kasyaba, has expressed concern over the rising cases of insecurity that have instilled fear among residents in Hamuhambo Town Council, Rubanda East Constituency.
Kasyaba’s remarks come in the wake of several reported incidents, most of which are believed to be politically motivated and linked to election-related violence.
The most recent incidents involved the vandalism of a campaign billboard featuring President Yoweri Museveni and Finance Minister (General Duties) Henry Musasizi at Busimuriko Trading Centre, as well as an acid attack on the residence of Francis Kibeda, the Local Council I Chairperson of Rwarugambwa and a well-known political coordinator for Minister Musasizi.
Police have since launched a manhunt for the unidentified suspects behind the attacks. Kasyaba, who is also a member of the District Security Committee, extended sympathies to the victims and condemned the violence.
He attributed the growing insecurity to laxity among some security personnel in the district and vowed that local leaders will not tolerate what he termed as “hooliganism fueled by political opportunists.”
