The Bufumbira North MP, Hon. Kamara John Nizeyimana, is under investigation for allegedly aiding the escape of six suspects facing charges of arson and malicious damage at Kisoro Central Police Station.

The suspects, Gasigwa Jeremiah, Harerimana Augustine, Nkurunziza Apollo, Bavuzayubusa Paskazia, Mujawimana Dinavance and Basekuye Teleza  are accused of burning property belonging to Mahoro Jackline following a village dispute on May 3, 2025.

According to police, the suspects were summoned for questioning but reportedly sought advice from MP Kamara, who allegedly told them to ignore the summons. They were later arrested and taken to Kisoro Central Police Station for statement recording.

Regional police spokesperson Elly Maate said MP Kamara later arrived at the station and requested police bond for the suspects. The District CID officer, D/ASP Babiiha Johnson, advised that statements be recorded first due to the public nature of the case.

Kamara allegedly left the station angrily, returned shortly after, instructed the suspects to escape, and drove them away in his vehicle. An officer who tried to stop him was pushed aside, and the matter was immediately reported to the station leadership.

Police launched an operation and rearrested the suspects at Kamara’s residence, but the MP evaded arrest after reportedly mobilizing residents to block the officers.
