The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Among, has called on Members of Parliament to prioritise efficiency and productivity as the 11th Parliament begins its fifth and final session.

Speaking during the plenary sitting on Wednesday, 30 July 2025, Speaker Among expressed concern over the low turnout in the chambers.

“I want to welcome you to this afternoon’s sitting. I’m surprised to see so many empty seats. We haven’t even reached September, so what will happen when we do?” she asked.

She noted that the Parliamentary Business Committee had earlier convened and successfully identified key legislative priorities for the remaining term.

“We prioritised the business for the Fifth Session, our last session of the 11th Parliament. The meeting stressed the need for greater efficiency and effectiveness, especially within committees,” Among said.

“The effectiveness of this session, and indeed of Parliament, will largely depend on how efficiently our committees perform. I urge you all to support the Business Committee and the work of Parliament so we can complete our agenda in good time and allow you to prepare for the upcoming elections,” she added.
